Experience
- Former collegiate libero with experience at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and California State University, San Bernardino.
- CCAA Libero of the Year, two-time All-CCAA selection, and CCAA All-Tournament Team honoree.
- Helped lead CSUSB to a CCAA Championship and conference title.
- Served as an assistant coach at California State University, San Bernardino following her playing career.
- Coached at Etiwanda High School, leading the boys volleyball program to its first CIF victory in school history.
- Head coached Rancho Valley Volleyball Club’s Boys 15 Black team to an SCVA division title and a Boys Junior National Championship in the Club Division

About Makena
Makena Overbey has an extensive volleyball career, starting at Rancho Valley Volleyball Club. She played at Los Osos High School getting herself First-Team All Conference her junior and senior years.
Following high school, she played at University of Alaska Fairbanks for her freshman and sophomore seasons, leading the Nanooks in aces and digs.
Makenaโs junior and senior year was spent playing for the Yotes at CSUSB. While on the team, the Coyotes achieved first in CCAA and won the CCAA Championship. She was named CCAA Libero of the Year in 2021, earned herself a spot on the Second Team All-West Region Defensive Player of the Week, and two time Second Team All-CCAA. She also received CCAA All-Tournament Team.
After graduating in 2023, she assisted at California State University San Bernardino where they went 15-11 and had a CCAA Tournament appearance.
Makena also coached at Etiwanda High School where she led the boys’ volleyball program to their first CIF win in school history.
She then coached at Rancho Valley Volleyball Club, head coaching the boys 15 Black team where they earned 1st in SCVA 16โs division. This team also went on to earn themselves first in the Club division of the Boys Junior National Championship.
Makena is excited to begin coaching at Sunshine Volleyball Club. She plans to dedicate time, effort and technical feedback towards each athlete. Promoting passion for the sport while also encouraging athletes to push themselves mentally and physically will be her biggest goal coming into this club.
