How do I get Started?

Beginner Programs
Beginner programs are designed to introduce young players to volleyball in a fun and supportive environment. These programs focus on teaching basic skills like passing, setting, and serving. To learn more, visit the Beginner Programs page.

Private Training / The House
Private training offers one-on-one or small group sessions with experienced coaches. These sessions are tailored to the player’s specific needs and skill level. To sign up for private training, download the Bounx app (iOS | Android) and select Sunshine Volleyball Club. To learn more about private training options, visit the Private Training page.

Clinics
Clinics provide focused training sessions to improve technique, skills, and game strategies. They cater to players of all levels and are available throughout the year. For schedules and registration, visit the Clinics page.

Teams
Sunshine Volleyball Club offers girls competitive team opportunities for various age groups and skill levels. Players are placed on teams based on tryout evaluations.

Beach Camps
Beach camps start in July and focus on skill-building and endurance training on the sand, providing a unique opportunity for players to develop strength and agility. These camps are open to all players. For more information and to sign up, visit the Beach Camps page.

Beginner Teams/Programs

The beginner program at Sunshine Volleyball Club introduces young players to volleyball in a relaxed and fun setting. It focuses on teaching essential skills like passing, setting, hitting, and teamwork to help players build a solid foundation. Programs are available in multiple locations:

Westside Programs:
Pee-Wees: For 1st–4th graders.
Tornadoes: For 5th–6th graders; tryout required.
Icebreakers: For 5th–6th graders; tryout required.
Juniors: For 7th–8th graders.

South Bay Programs
Tidal Waves: For 4th–6th graders. (Fridays 4-6pm) American Martyrs Gym
Pee-Wees: For 3rd & 4th graders (Sundays 3-5pm) 5504 West 135th Street, Hawthorne, CA 90250

These programs are ideal for players new to the sport or want an introduction to volleyball (skills & techniques).

For beginner programs, such as Pee-Wees, Juniors, and Tidal Waves, tryouts are not required.

There is no out of region travel. You won’t need to get on a plane.

The time commitment varies by team approximately two (2) hours a week. Please check the individual team pages to find specific schedules and commitments:

The beginner programs range in cost. Fees include weekly practices from October through June, uniforms, and participation in up to three tournaments.

Yes, Sunshine Volleyball Club offers developmental and competitive teams for players ready to advance. These teams require tryouts and involve a greater commitment in terms of time and resources. Explore our Programs to see what program is right for your daughter.

Billing

Yes, we offer payment plans. Please contact our billing department at kyle@sunshinevolleyballclub.com for more information on available options.

Payments for payment plans are deducted on the first of each month.

Yes, you can pay in full at the time of registration.

If your credit card was stolen, please contact Kyle in our billing department at kyle@sunshinevolleyballclub.com. Kyle will provide you with a secure link to update your credit card information.

No, refunds are not provided if you decide to leave the club.

We accept credit cards, debit cards, and ACH (bank transfers). There is a processing fee on all credit and debit card transactions. For more information, contact kyle@sunshinevolleyballclub.com.

Yes, you can request to change your payment plan. Please email kyle@sunshinevolleyballclub.com for assistance.

If a payment fails, you will be notified via email, and you must update your payment information within 7 days. Contact kyle@sunshinevolleyballclub.com for help with resolving payment issues.

Travel

The team pays for coaches’ travel, accommodations, and food. Players’ food, tournament entry fees, and other team costs are built into a budget. The total is divided among the number of players on the team.

Approximately 90% of Sunshine Volleyball Club teams participate in travel tournaments. Each team has the option to attend travel events. The names of the tournaments each team will attend can be found on their specific program pages.

Yes, the club offers non-travel teams, including Tidal Waves, Hot Shots, Icebreakers, and Tornadoes. Information about these teams is available on the Developmental Programs page.

The average range of tournament costs per player is between $800 and $1,200 (which doesn’t include players and parents airfare and hotel room). For the names of the tournaments your team will attend, check your team’s program page.

No. During registration, there is a non-refundable deposit (e.g., $400), which is applied to the last tournament balance for the individual player/family.

Parents are typically billed for travel costs between 4 to 8 weeks prior to each travel tournament. The names of the tournaments and associated timelines can be found on your team’s program page.

The number of travel events varies by team, ranging from 1 to 4 times per season. The names of the tournaments your team will participate in are listed on your team’s program page.

The end-of-year tournament may be held locally or require travel. Tournaments include prestigious events such as Junior Olympics (JO), AAU Nationals, the Arizona Festival, and other competitions like the Summer Soiree. These tournaments provide players with the opportunity to compete at a higher level and celebrate their development throughout the season. Details about the specific tournament and travel arrangements are shared with teams well in advance.

Parents are encouraged to check with their coach or team manager for schedules, fees, and accommodations. The end-of-year tournament may be local or involve travel and includes options such as JO, AAU, Arizona Festival, Local, or Summer Soiree.

Yes, at least one parent needs to travel with the player.

If you cannot travel, coaches must be notified and other arrangements must be made for your player to stay with another family.

Some tournaments offer group hotel discounts for teams. The team rep communicates these details before the tournament.

College Camp

A college camp is an opportunity for players to be coached directly by college coaches. It serves as a showcase for players to be evaluated by the coaches they may want to play for in the future. For more details, visit High Academic College Camp.

The college camp for 2025 is scheduled for:

  • May 31: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
  • June 1: 9:00 AM–3:00 PM

There’s a Sunday night clinic from 4pm-5:30pm for 1st through 6th graders, and 5:30pm-7pm for 7th -10th graders.

AGE DIVISION DEFINITIONS 2024-2025 SEASON

Once a player participates (including but not limited to practicing, training, attending workouts and/or competing) in a club or varsity program for any university, college, community college, or junior college, he/she is ineligible to take part in any regional and national programming, which includes but is not limited to national JNC qualifying and championship events.

 

18 and under division

  • Players who were born on or after July 1st, 2005 or
  • Players who were born on or after July 1st, 2004 and
  • a high school student in the 12th grade during some part of the academic year.

17 and under division – Players who were born on or after July 1st, 2006
16 and under division – Players who were born on or after July 1st, 2007
15 and under division – Players who were born on or after July 1st, 2008
14 and under division – Players who were born on or after July 1st, 2009
13 and under division – Players who were born on or after July 1st, 2010
12 and under division – Players who were born on or after July 1st, 2011

Not sure what age division you should try out for? Simple. Just figure out how old you will be next year on July 1, 2025. You are eligible to play in that age group or an older age group. Players are allowed to play up in an older age division, but are not allowed to play down in age. The birth date cut-off set by USA Volleyball is September 1.
