Herb’s coaching philosophy is that it is important to build the player’s character and their confidence in order to have the best player possible.

He loves seeing that moment when a player puts everything together and it all “clicks” for them and when past players continue to advance in their playing abilities.

Herb has two children that have inherited his love of the sport. His son, Jacob, is the setter for the team at Cal Lutheran and his daughter, Ashley, also a setter, has committed to DePaul University (Chicago) for the fall.

“You should never stay at the same level.

Always push yourself to the next.“
