Coaching Philosophy

To reinforce positive energy and having fun which will translate to wins.

About Diana

Emma Scanlan played for the NorCal Volleyball Club for nine years. She went on to play for the University of Portland (2016-2020), graduating with a BA in Economics; she also has an MS in Marketing from University of Southern California.

This marks her first year as a coach. Her goals for this year are: for all the players to be better players by the end of the season, for them to learn not only to be great winners but how to be good losers, and for the entire team to continue playing volleyball next year.

Emma’s coaching philosophy is to reinforce positive energy and having fun which will translate to wins. She believes effort and focus is more important that skill and you must be a good teammate on and off the court.

She loves the smiles and looks of surprise on her players’ faces when they are able to accomplish what they have been working on.

Emma lives in Brentwood and is the proud “aunt” to her sister’s French Bulldog, Hank. In her free time she enjoys reading, hiking, eating out, and, of course, playing volleyball.

“There’s no substitute for hard work.

If you work hard and prepare yourself you might get beat,

but you’ll never lose.“

“You’ve got to be confident when you’re competing. You’ve got to be a beast.”
– Gabby Douglas
