About Ray

Alwin Ray Roble was the setter for University High School in Santa Monica throughout his four years there, playing first on the JV team before moving to the varsity team his junior and senior years. He was captain of both of his teams and was named the #1 Setter in the Western League his senior year.

He went on to play for one year at Santa Monica College. Alvin also played in the California Beach Volleyball Association. He graduated from Santa Monica College with an AA degree in General Science and an AS degree in Web Development; he is continuing to work on a degree in computer science.

He assisted the Santa Monica College women’s beach volleyball team’s coaches in 2018 and 2023. For the 2022 – 2023 season he was the head coach for the Beach Cities Volleyball Club 15u. During the fall of 2023 Ray was the head coach for the Culver Middle School girls’ volleyball team, as well as the assistant coach for the Palisades High School boys’ beach volleyball team.

Also, during 2023 he was the assistant coach for the girls’ Sinjin’s Beach Club 18u team; they won gold at the AAU beach tournament. Ray began coaching for the Sunshine Volleyball Club in 2023.

Ray’s coaching philosophy is: success is not the key to confidence, confidence is the key to success, and repetition is the key to confidence.

He loves developing players to achieve their potential. Ray’s personal hobbies include playing volleyball as well as creating and editing videos.
